Whether you’re an e-commerce business, mail order company, pure play retailer, or your firm simply ships large amounts of packets and parcels, ensuring your items reach their destination with the minimum of fuss is paramount.

Here at TNT Post, our pioneering sorting equipment and established network means you can always rely on us to deliver in a cost effective and timely manner. Of course, we didn’t get to where we are today without picking up a few valuable nuggets of information along the way.  With this in mind, we’ve assembled our top tips (below) to make sending parcels and letters abroad as simple as possible for your business.

  • Ensure the address is clear It may sound obvious, but make sure the address is displayed clearly, ensuring the postcode or zip code is included. The country you’re sending it to must be written on the last line of the address in capitals. Also, some countries have size and weight restrictions – check these out before posting your items.
  • Include a return address Again, it may sound painfully obvious, but it pays to ensure there’s a return address on all post and packages so they can be sent back to you if, for any reason, they go undelivered.
  • Remember the customs declaration Each item sent outside of the EU will require you to fill in a CN22 customs declaration form – remember this before you send your package. You can find information about the form and other documents related to sending international mail on the HM Revenue & Customs website
  • The importance of proper packaging Depending on what you send, the packaging will vary. Choose packaging that will safeguard the contents and ensure they’re fixed firmly to prevent them coming undone during the journey.
  • Prohibited and Restricted Items The Border Force will carry out selective inspections to ensure no prohibited or restricted goods or items such as drugs, indecent or obscene material, weapons, endangered species and counterfeit goods are improperly exported.
