Angie Bray MP for Central Ealing & Acton visited one the new delivery units TNT Post UK has opened in Ealing as part of its West London pilot of a new mail delivery service.
The trial which began in mid-April created 400 new jobs in the West London area and the company hopes to expand nationwide the number of posties it has to 20,000 in the next five years.
During the vist, Ms Bray joined a postie on his round delivering mail to households and businesses in the constituency. Local postie, Ashley Lowe 21, showed the MP the new technology TNT Post is using for its deliveries in the area. Every single letter is scanned before it is posted through the letterbox to guarantee delivery.
Whilst on the round Ms Bray admired one of the 200 bikes TNT Post has introduced to the streets of Ealing and surrounding areas which allows posties to complete their rounds as quickly as well as remain fit.
Following the visit, Ms Bray said:
"I am pleased that companies like TNT Post are investing in Ealing and creating jobs for local people. The jobs are helping those who have just left education and finding it hard getting a foothold in the workplace and are flexible allowing parents to return to work after having children. I look forward to seeing more TNT posties on the streets in the coming months."
Nick Wells, CEO TNT Post UK, commented
"We were grateful that Ms Bray took the time to meet with our new posties in Ealing. They are doing a great job providing the quality service our customers demand. TNT Post is proud to be creating many jobs in London and will work hard to provide many more in the years to come."
