TNT Post announces UK commitment to CSR in 2007
20 February 2007
TNT Post, the leading challenger to Royal Mail in the UK postal market, has today announced its corporate and social responsibility programme for 2007.
The TNT Post CSR programme for 2007 will focus on a number of initiatives and activities which are aimed to improve its social and environmental impact on the communities in which it operates. These will include:
- Social responsibility – implementing activities that support the TNT partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme
- Sustainability - reducing carbon emissions
- International managing system standards – putting plans in place that will help to achieve a range of standards and accreditation for:
- SA 8000 (social responsibility)
- ISO 14001 (environmental management)
- IS0 9001 (operational excellence)
- OHSAS 18001 (work place safety)
- Investors in People (personal growth of employees)
The announcement comes as the company approaches its fourth year of operation and demonstrates the level of maturity the business has reached. Over the last few years, TNT Post has experienced exceptional growth in its business whilst it has successfully established its leading position in the market.
TNT Post’s CSR programme is inspired by its parent company TNT which considers social responsibility an integral part of its business. The company has for a number of years shown a global commitment to developing and maintaining policies and practices that promote a positive and sustainable environment and social contribution to every community in which it operates. In 2005, the company was globally recognised for its CSR efforts when it entered the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
Simon Dolph, Head of Marketing and Communication will be leading the charge on developing these activities. Company initiatives will be regularly communicated to TNT Post’s employees in the UK through communication channels such as its monthly newsletter PostScript and the UK company website.
Simon commented: “Developing a CSR programme for our UK business is an important step forward for TNT Post. Having built up an established reputation as leading challenger to Royal Mail in the postal market, we are keen to build upon our parent’s track record in CSR and instil these values in our UK operations.”
Activities already underway include a new mobile initiative which has been designed to mobilize funds for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) by enabling individuals to donate to the humanitarian aid agency. By texting FOOD GIVE to 60123, approximately £1.04 will go to the WFP.1 TNT Group has been an active partner of the WFP since 2002 and has committed its knowledge, skills and resources to help WFP tackle the greatest logistics challenge of all: fighting world hunger. A major proportion of TNT’s employees are involved one way or another with the WPF. In addition to its mobile fundraising initiative, TNT Post will strive to further encourage employee support and involvement of the partnership by communicating “hands on” volunteering opportunities to staff and other related activities.
