In just over six months of operation in the Province TNT Post has
made remarkable progress in winning new clients through offering business and public
sector a choice of postal services provider.
The company has won a significant two year public sector contract for the ‘Business
Services Organisation’ which provides a broad range of regional business support functions
and specialist professional services to the health and social care sector in Northern Ireland.
The contract will be for millions of postal items and is the first public sector contract won by
the company in Northern Ireland. TNT Post currently collects mail from eight of the ten major
hospitals in Northern Ireland and these additional collections will lead to a 20 per cent saving
on current postal costs to these organisations.
The award of the contract is good news for the public purse when it is facing cuts to the
capital budget by around 40 per cent by 2015.
Following the deregulation of the postal industry in 2006 Royal Mail contracts managed by
the Central Procurement Directorate can no longer continue unchallenged and will have to
be renegotiated. Considering that 70 per cent of GDP in Northern Ireland is from the public
sector TNT Post can offer substantial savings to their budgets.
Commenting on the contract win Nick Wells, CEO TNT Post UK, said:
“We are excited at the prospect of working with the public sector here in Northern Ireland.
TNT Post is committed to effective and sustainable competition which reduces costs,
incentivises innovation and encourages efficiency”.
TNT Post has also been winning private sector clients including Quinn Insurance who noted
“It was a no brainer for us to move to TNT Post. There was no issue in transferring our
postal business to an alternative supplier. It made simple financial sense. We process 2.5
million items per year and save a considerable amount on postage that we can reinvest in
the business elsewhere.”
The TNT Post Northern Ireland operation is based in Newtownabbey. Budgeted for 20
employees for the first year of operation the company has already reached 16 within six
months and hopes to continue this growth trend and associated local investment.
